Kwame Kilpatrick knew he wasn't bright enough for business. So he got into politics. He stole. And now he's got 28 years in the can.

Good, I say.

I've heard some of you say: It's much too severe of a penalty for your run-of-the-mill municipal graft. Kwame didn't kill anyone, you say.

I say: That's debatable. When you steal millions from the poorest city in the country that means there are fewer ambulances arriving on time. It means fire engines that can't pump water. It means detectives taking busses to crime scenes. If he hadn't stolen all that money, we could have bought a couple things.

I say: Some child died who didn't have to.

So Kwame and his buddy Bobby Ferguson are gone.

But it ain't over in Detroit. Not by a long shot. None of the corporate high rollers who were "extorted" are seeing any prison time. They're still here, doing business with the city and Wayne County. They're still attending their charity functions, eating their chateaubriand accompanied by a nice central coast cabernet, convincing each other they are the centerpiece to Detroit's "turnaround."

Beware, Detroit, of these corporate wolves, these self-appointed saviors. The ones we call "Mister." The ones who get tax breaks and then don't pay their taxes. The "business leaders" who tell the mayor and county executive how things are going to go before putting a little nugget in their campaign accounts. The ones we put on pedestals and billboards.

Beware of the fangless lapdog media who believe these wolves are actually sheep. Those reporters and editors and publishers who want a chair at the banquet table and the cocktail party. These "journalists" trumpet turnaround. They write clever, superficial things. They give endorsements on their opinion pages without having had the courage to vet their anointed one.

Thank God there are a handful of real reporters here. Nice job Jim Schaefer and M.L. Elrick, just to name a few.

Beware of the bureaucracy that has not been swept out of City Hall. It clings stubbornly like a roach in a drain pipe. The Emergency Manager will clean the balance sheet and then leave and the cancer will still be there. The procurement, purchasing and building departments are where all the money flows through and so this is where the money is stolen (see Kwame).

But a federal agent told me after Kwame's sentencing that those departments cannot be overhauled without a change to the city charter. Those changes ostensibly must flow through the City Council.

And I have no faith there. Their grand legislative vision? Import goats to eat the tall grass.

Goats! Seriously!

The wolves have got to be laughing.

Sentencing gathering.

When the Free Press held their first "gathering" at the Anchor Bar in Detroit, for all of the bloggers that were a major part Jim Schaefer's live daily blog following the KK, BK & BF Corruption trial in Federal Court last spring, which turned into the " Splash of Green" ..that was a HUGE success, much fun and turned a current event that was bleak into an amazing, productive and fun event from all the Blogerville residents...

The Freep ALSO stated that they were going to do a Sentencing Gathering as well......

What we do know is that the Freep is NOT going to sponsor a "Sentencing Gathering". (Unless this changes from now until the sentencing) This comes straight from Jim when he attended our gathering a few months ago, in April. He told those of us in attendance straight out, that we "were on on own". The FREEP is not going to be involved. Which is 10000000% fine ...even better actually!

This way "we" as in ALL OF US do not have to concern/wonder/worry about a 3rd party possibly going over their "lines" (What...a HUGE bra stuffed with money? Or vacuum bags stuffed with money? Never) which in turn could be well, not up to our "lines of standard" hehehe. Or basically funny shit that the Freep feels going too far! That is it, in a nut shell.

So, with that being said ..Yes, we are on our own and since this "gathering" could only be a few months out now, I think it is time to put the motion in action and start the planning stages!

This way, we can have more activity and TOP what we all threw together in 2 1/2 days! ~hehe~

April Gathering!

I am trying to put together a gathering for April 20th, around the Livonia, Novi, Plymouth area or the like. Most likely around 6:30/7:00pm until ???

I have the book with about 30+ email addresses that was passed around at the Anchor Bar. Which I plan on emailing everyone shortly (within the week).

I am looking for suggestions from you all. My train of thought was finding a place that has a either private or semi private room, that everyone can order off the menu (not banquet style), unless that is what you all would like??? Going banquet style is normally a set price per person.

I have not been home long...

About 40 minutes now after the Freep Gathering. (Do not let the term "gathering" fool you, it was a party, hehe). As I feel I know exactly what I want to say, I, YES I, am at a loss for words. ~contain yourself kids, it CAN happen~ :-)

I can say THANK YOU, THANK YOU and THANK YOU, over and over and over again. After awhile it does not take on such a meaning anymore, as the 1st thank you. The 4th the time might seem old...but what if you had...wait, wait for it...... 

The 4th stated TRIPLE, TRIPLE, TRIPLE THANK YOU!!!!!! Now see, THAT has meaning!

Everyone that I met this evening (and I SO did not even get to meet maybe half of you amazing people ~sad face here~) I am SO honored to be a part of this great group of people. The generosity that was shown, with BOTH the wishing well and the raffle....blew me away! YOU ....all of YOU ROCK the D and all of Michigan! (And not to forget our Canadian friends too :-) We are an amazing state!

I witnessed, everyone also sharing many laughs, opinions, warm greetings, giggles, etc...even the camera men & women as well as the other reporters that were there were chuckling ...yes, we saw that! Which is another point that was clear that they really love their careers and it shows. If we could ALL be that lucky to have a career we adore..........

Anyhow….getting way off base here. So let me say what I really came here to say.

Kilpatrick sent this email to his parole agent Thursday:

“I have not been home since January 2, 2013. As you know as we have discussed on numerous occasions, I have a family. I am married, and have been blessed with 3 wonderful sons. As you know, there are many pressures on families in our society today, i.e., Financial, Emotional, Environmental, etc. My family has not been immune from these normal pressures that must be endured for successful families to prosper. And now added to these well established challenges there are many more my family has to endure at this time, as you may well know. We have always been able to make it through these things together.

I have been prevented from traveling home since January 9, 2013. It has been said that this sanction was given as to thoroughly investigate my finances and financial transactions. During this time of “investigation” I have been placed on house arrest, and my movement has been all but halted. Meanwhile, the “investigation” sprouts new tentacles that move in different directions, more divergent inquiries, and an increased scope of time for investigation subjects, which of course has caused the “investigation” to be extended on numerous occasions.

C-Wright, you have a habit of saying that you are “dotting your i’s” and “crossing your t’s”. You have told me that you accept full responsibility for all of the decisions that are being made in this “investigation.” So I humbly ask, have your requests for exact dates of financial transactions, flight buddy passes, a stop at a restaurant on the way to home base, etc, outweighed your community supervision and parole agent mission of helping the parolee to reconnect to family and community? Has it outweighed your mission to support the parolee in making the successful adjustment to parole? Has your willingness to “dot and cross” blurred your focus on the fact that you are responsible for making decisions that substantially affect real human beings (wife, children, family, community), whom are not on parole? Has your fear of public and media scrutiny moved you to make decisions that are within a vacuum of self-preservation? I pray that without pretense, pride, ego and a strong sense of real honest thought, you answer these questions.

After speaking with you on yesterday, it seems that you have formed in your own mind, that much of this action is justified by the “Special Conditions” that I have of my parole. YOU and your colleagues at the MDOC are the totalitarians of my parole, and authors of my written instructions. If you want certain information from me, without any confusion, write those instructions into the special conditions. You have not done that! You have instead conformed and deformed words to mean what you want them to mean. That is not only inappropriate, its wrong. And yes, C-Wright, the continuation of an “investigation” with a blurred focus of what it is attempting to discover, no understanding of the timeliness of its conclusion, a clear understanding that it has no focus on a new crime, gun, assault or any other action that would give rise to incarceration, and a continuing strategy of keeping me on house arrest as well as preventing me from seeing my family, is WRONG.

Kilpatrick’s family is living in this 5,000-square-foot home in Grand Prairie, Texas.

Even after the media shared your emails, and stories ran last week on all three local TV news channels, several Michigan Newspapers, a plethora of radio stations and many blogs reported stories of “Kwame Kilpatrick begging to go home,” I am renewing my request to do so. As I have previously stated, I am a human being. I am spiritually, emotionally and have familial attachment to 4 people that love me very much. My home is in Texas. I am not requesting to travel anywhere else. I want to go home. Again, I am not a flight risk, I pose no threat to the public, and I must return for federal court jurisdiction by Monday morning. Your “investigation” will not be halted, or hindered by my going home. I humbly request that the larger issues of parole, i.e., safety of the public, rehabilitation, reconnection, successful adjustment, and yes, even understanding that parolees are human beings, outweigh any notion of personal scrutiny, fear, and self-preservation.”

Kilpatrick’s parole agent refused to lift the travel ban. Kilpatrick stays in Detroit this weekend — verdict or no verdict, according to the emails.
